TYING UP LOOSE ENDS
My excuse for a post full of randomness.
We are officially in the planning stages of a major kitchen remodel, which seems like a real nice way of celebrating our first year as homeowners. I'm lucky enough to work at a school with an Applied Tech Program, and the department chair happens to be a cabinetmaker. So Here's what we have planned so far....
Cabinets - Maple, European style, pull outs for pots and pans, and a floor to ceiling pantry unit.
Flooring - Looks like Linoleum will be the winner in this derby, though we may look into cork as a possibility if the price is not too insane.
Appliances - well I mentioned that in an earlier post. The last major one to purchase is a range hood. Due to the fact that we are moving everything around, we need to get an Island style hood - which I discovered late last night doubles or triples (at the least) the cost of said appliance, ah well do it right the first time.
Countertop - To be determined, though our hired gun said he has always wanted to try and do a poured concrete countertop, and so we might be able swing that assuming that yours truly acts as helper boy, and his test runs are satisfactory, otherwise I'm betting on a solid surface of some sort.
We'll meet with him again in a week and nail down some more specifics, but it's pretty exciting to be doing something more than just leafing through kitchen remodeling magazines, of which I have seen too many.
With all the doings around the homestead I have the feeling that we are edging closer to being in Gallup for the long haul - only 17 years till Ann can retire!
It looks like my trip to the Pacific NW has been scuttled. which sucks, because I really love Seattle, and more importantly, I was looking forward to seeing Emma and Shawn. Maybe later in the year, or in 2004, or maybe we can hook up in Vegas or something. After my previous rant, I'm feeling more than a little pang of guilt over that one.
On the flipside, looks like at least one of you will be taking me up on my offer of lodging. Of course this visit has been tentatively planned for some time, so I can't take any credit for swaying the masses with my savvy rhetoric. Should Ruddy B, make it out this way though, I'll cosider the rant well worth it.
Only about 3 1/2 weeks away from the Outer Banks..... mmmmm beaches.......
Things are going good. It's making me paranoid that it will all blow up in my face anytime now.
go and tell me all about it
