MORE LAPSES IN REGULARITY

And, no that has nothing to do woth my intake of bran. April, quite frankly, has been flying by and I am quite excited to see it heading into my rearview. Got some things accomplished:
1. - Finally painted the living/dining room - and you can tell that I have watched too much Home and Garden TV with Ann, because I ws not put off by the notion of doing a faux finish-- in 3 shades of yellow paint.
2. - Was named chair of the Technology and Distance Education Committee here at UNM-G, which is a bit terrifying, since it is no secret how much I detest meeings, it will be more than a little interesting how I do trying to preside over one.
3. - made the largest financial mistake of my professional career to date, by purchasing an inferior model of "Interactive Whiteboard". Hopefully today I will get word as to weather or not I can send them back to the distributor without losing my shirt in the process. Normally it would have been no big deal, but these little babies sat in storage for 4 months before we discovered just how crappy they are, so the distributor could come back and tell me to pound salt. Oh well, life is a never ending series of learning experiences.

Other fun stuff:
-We bought so honest to gosh Art! An abstarct Painting specifically, by an artist and co-worker of mine here at UNM. It looks wuite spectacular now that the room it is displayed in has been spruced up with some new paint of its own.
-I finally have some new specs, including my first decent pair of prescription sunglasses (not those clip on type things), This should make mountain biking a real pleasure this year, as (in case you didn't know) it gets quite sunny in these parts.
-My parents made it out for a weekend. Having my folks come out to visit is a blast. I'm not sure that it happened all at once, but over time, my parents have become some of my best friends. We hung out, I got to cook up some seriously tasty filets, we experienced the surreal that is teh Gallup Flea Market, and generally just enjoyed the company. Now I just have to find a long weekend to get out to Vegas soon, and return the favor.

I've taken some time off ffrom paying particularly close attention to the world, in an attempt to not become a complete raving maniac. I'm sure that will pass though, so stay tuned for future ranting and other assorted nonsense.

GO FLY A KITE

THIS is why you have to love New Mexico. Fortunately I'm in the NW corner of the state, and all I had to deal with weather-wise yesterday was snow. This place is like a test bed for the Armageddon.

UNCOMFORTABLY NUMB

Sorry for the long pause in my ramblings oh faithful reader(s?), but alas April has brought showers of a different sort, a flurry of activity revolving around taxes, annual reports, family visitations, and other things that are directly related to me not writing anything of any import here. Let's go for the big round-up type of post here, just so you know where I am ok? Swell.

War - Yeah, so it's wrapping up time for shock and awe, but a whole bunch of logistical nightmares to be dealt with. Hopefully Bush & Co. can get things rolling on a pretty steady timetable, and have some actuall Iraquis calling the shots on the quick. I'm fantasizing of course, I'm quite sure all will be bogged down, and the geopolitical backbiting over who gets to rebuild what will be in full effect in no time soon. Also, the fact that the flag that supposudly flew over the Pentagon on 9/11 should show up in Iraq for a photo-op is more than a little distressing. Does nobody recall that there were no Iraqis on the planes that hit the towers and pentagon, and went down in Western PA? 15 WERE Saudi Arabians though, and they're working with us on this little project. Americans are as a group some of the most ignorant ranting jingoistic putzes around.

Michael Moore - Is not my poster boy. I think he is an oportunistic hypocrite, his major works are riddled with many of the same logical and continuity ewrrors that drive me mad regardless of the source. I also have an issue with a guy who claims to be for the little guy, but still tries to keep his own writers from joining a union. I think his rant at the Oscars was little more than PR ultimately. I have this fantasy about a paparazzi catching him and Bill O'reily in a lover's embrace, but let's not go there. I think they are two sides of the same coin really. Extremist pigs, making a buck off of yelling louder than anyone else, and eschewing debate for browbeating. Sure each has made valid points in the past, but how does the saying go about throwing shit at a wall? Eventually some of it will stick.

Taxes - As inevitable as my future occupation as worm-food. A majority of Americans apparently believe that keeping the deficit down or eliminated is important. Apparently however, that majority is not to be found on capitol hill

Man, I'm sick so much right now, and no idea how to shake the sense that it's all going to get worse before it gets better. I quote Steve Martin: "If it weren't for my Lucky Astrology Mood Watch, I wouldn't beleive in anything."

BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID

Why Citizens should always be vigilant about the actions of it's govenrment. This is the stuff that keeps me from sleeping soundly some nights.

WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE

More of the "f you are not with us, you are against us" crapola, this time aimed at techies who actually think that a citizens right to privacy is something to care about. The whole article is worth a read. But the stunner is the "man in the street" portion where we discover that people really are as dumb as you give them credit for.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

As if I weren't irritated enough about our information police. And no, I'm not really surprised. I have been blathering on about things like this well before 9/11, but now with a populace that seems to think that the protection of freedom requires the relinqueshment of it, that feels it's better to "feel" safe than to "be" free, that thinks that in order to show support for the troops in harm's way - you have to believe that Bush is A OK too. Well that is all a load of tripe. Your personal privacy is one of the last real freedoms you have to hold onto, and it looks as if that one is pretty much going down the drain. Believe me when I tell you that eventually all this surveilance will start affecting people you know and love in a very negative way.

WIN SOME, LOSE SOME

According to this, our loss is Great Britain's Gain. I only wish we could have saddled them with this putz who has more lives than a back alley feline.
