I went the whole moth of july without a post - what a slacker I be. Things have been busy, in that caouldn't tell you what I did exactly, but there must have been a lot of it to do, sort of way. I spent the Forth of July in Vegas, and having now engaged in Independance day activities in Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas NV, I'm gonna have to say that each are unique, but Vegas was less crowded.
Vegas however was hot as balls. My dad clued me into a little tidbit to ponder the next time you watch your local weatherman poking fun at those poor folks frying in the desert suroundings of sin city. Every city has a place where they get their Official" temeperature reading, that goes to the National Weather Service, or collected by weather elves, or some other such nonsense. Vegas is no different. But you never really stop to think about that location, until you see the mercury rise to unseen heights. The official high temperature for Vegas was at 112 degrees each of the days we were visiting. Let me assure you that the actual temperature was higher. I know this to be fact because the official temperature reading for vegas is taken in the shade. No kidding, so add some solar radiation to your how hot is it scale, and it is no wonder that several CD jewel cases were sacrificed in the back seat of the car that stayed parked for the long weekend - we're talking my own home mde Shrinky Dinks. Amazingly the discs themselves remained unscathed, but the jewel cases were pretty well destroyed due to thermal overexuberance.
We're creeping ever closer to the point of no return with the kitchen - the missing link at this point is an electrician, and let em tell you, I will have to remember that planning on using contractors in this town requires a serious amount of foresight. Hopefully by this time next week, I'll have guys tearing out my cabinets, running pipe and wire to and fro, and generally being terrified that something will go horribly wrong with the whole plan. Once it's done I suspect that my take on the whole experience will be much better, but it's just my natural state of parinoia, can't shake it so just ride the wave, I guess.
Another mode of nervousness is the impending start to the new semester. A semester that will see me taking my very forst try at college instruction. Nervous, excited, a bit crazed perhaps? Probably alittle of all of the above, but I'll definitely let you know how it goes.
go and tell me all about it
