Well, I'm home from work, trying to shake off the last of the nastyness that is welling in my tummy. I think this is the first time I have taken consecutive sick days in years. Thought that this would be a good time to actually add some content to my woefully lacking blog, since things have been way too busy on campus this semester for me to really make regular posts.
The distance ed classes are running fairly smooth, after some rather odd problems. The instructors I'm working with deserve medals for their patience to this new fangled tech (new for Gallup, NM anyway), they are the ones with the hard job, as I see it. Seems that there were some configuration issues related to the Polycom's Q.O.S. (Quality of service) settings, that were causing our transmissions south to break up, and eventually drop all together. Luckily, some good guessing on my part cleared things up, and barring an unforseen catastrophe, we should make it through the semester in one piece. This is a good development, since I will be heading to a much loved (imagine dripping sarcasm), education/technology conference in Atlanta come March. I feel a little better knowing that the equipment is running stable, since it will be quite difficlut to troubleshoot it from a hotel in Georgia.
We're creeping ever so slowly twards finishing the kitchen. Half of the molds for the countertops are are built, the semi-precious stones have been purchased, along with numerous bags of 5000psi concrete mix (which is a special order item in this town). We even found someone to install the range hood - which will entail much cutting of holes in our ceiling and roof. Once those tasks are completed, it's just down to tiling the backsplashes. Tiling is my responsibility exclusively, so at least i can't complain about delays on that one.
I have recently discovered that I am 4/5ths of the way to accruing my max vacation time which is a surprisingly large number, so I need to start planning some serious vacationing pronto. With Ann, her sister, and mom heading to Italy in May, it leaves yours truly to stab out on a spousless holiday. I'm hoping for Europe, but may have to settle for a domestic destination if fares don't drop soon.
Ann had the full realization that she works for the government these past few weeks as she scrambled to complete much paperwork for her first promotion since becoming a C.O. in the IHS - she's currently a Lt. - and I have no Idea if her rank will change should the promotion go through. She'll know in July, and I'm confident she'll get it. With the raise, she just may be able to get that Miyata that I keep saying is a bit beyond what we should pay for a second car. Thing is, she's worked her tail off, and is pretty much the stable earner in this marriage, so if we can hold off til summer to buy, I'm not going to be the one to say no to a shiny new convertible. That of course, assumes that she'll have her license by then.
